Expel all Palestinians from Gaza, says Israeli gov’t ministry

With rapid developments amid this perilous moment in Israel-Palestine, +972 will be sending you recaps on a more frequent basis to bring you independent journalism that the world so desperately needs right now. Here are the latest reports and articles from our contributors:

In an exclusive investigation by +972 and Local Call, Yuval Abraham revealed a detailed policy paper produced by Israel’s Intelligence Ministry that recommends the total expulsion of Gaza’s 2.2 million Palestinians to the Sinai, demonstrating how the idea of population transfer is reaching official discussions. An English translation of the full document is included.

Hamdan Mohammed Al-Huraini wrote about his village of Susiya which, like other West Bank communities, is being subjected to escalating Israeli assaults aimed at chasing Palestinians out of their homes. Oren Ziv reported on another West Bank village, Wadi al-Siq, which faced a particularly horrifying ordeal with settlers and soldiers torturing residents. Ruwaida Kamal Amer wrote about the thousands of Palestinians stuck on the Egyptian side of the Gaza crossing, unable to return and sick with worry for their families.

Reporting from Paris, Deborah Leter wrote about France’s repressive efforts to ban demonstrations in support of Gaza, arrest protesters, and dissolve several Palestine advocacy groups. In Tel Aviv, Oren Ziv documented a protest by dozens of Israelis outside the army’s headquarters, demanding a ceasefire and the release of all hostages.

And in The Landline, our outgoing editor Natasha Roth-Rowland wrote about Israel’s attempt to retrofit its Gaza war onto a Holocaust template, which has, obscenely, rendered pleas to stop further killing as a moral failure. We will miss you, Natasha!
