+972 Magazine is published by the non-profit organization “972 — Advancement of Citizen Journalism,” which is owned and run by Palestinian and Israeli journalists. We do not represent nor are we aligned with any other organization, political party, or special interests.

We are looking for a professional editor to join our team. The requirements can be found below.

Job description

The new editor will join the +972 team in producing cutting-edge journalism during a critical time in Israel-Palestine. The editor will work under +972’s editor-in-chief and alongside other editors in the day-to-day operation of the website, with a central role in the creation and production of news reports, investigative and in-depth features, analytical reportage, and op-eds. The editor will also have an ongoing role in helping shape the editorial focus of +972.

Responsibilities

  • Editing news articles, features, investigative reports, op-eds, and analyses;
  • Identifying, commissioning, and publishing stories;
  • Seeking out and developing relationships with journalists and contributors to work with +972;
  • Monitoring local and international media to inform +972 stories;
  • Writing reports, op-eds, and analyses;
  • Connecting with communities in struggle on the ground;
  • Helping to produce and edit The +972 Podcast, newsletter and other products;
  • Translation from Arabic and/or Hebrew to English;
  • Helping manage the website and its social media presence;
  • Working as a part of the editorial team on a day-to-day basis and participating in weekly editorial meetings;
  • Collaborating with our partners in the wider media and civil society ecosystem

Requirements

  • Proven experience in editing and producing high-quality journalism in English;
  • Close familiarity with the political landscape of Israel-Palestine and the wider Middle East. Must be a news/politics buff. Familiarity with the social, political, and human rights movements active in the local arena is a major advantage;
  • Ability to work under pressure, especially in breaking news situations, and to manage and prioritize multiple tasks;
  • A commitment to the core values of the site: fair journalism, equity, justice, and an end to occupation and apartheid;
  • Being a team player; 
  • Residency in Israel, the West Bank including East Jerusalem, or Gaza — a plus;
  • Experience in distribution and audience engagement on social media — a plus;
  • Experience in podcasting — a plus;

Language requirements

  • English — mother-tongue or equivalent;
  • Hebrew and/or Arabic — mother-tongue or fluency.

  • Most of the work is done remotely. Work in our Tel Aviv-Jaffa or Haifa offices is optional;
