Job description
The West Bank reporter will join +972 Magazine’s team at a critical moment for Israel-Palestine, producing cutting-edge journalism that challenges dominant narratives. Reporting directly to the editor-in-chief and working closely with the editorial team, the reporter will deliver insightful, rigorous, and impactful reporting and analysis from the ground. This is a part-time (50%) position, with the possibility of growing into full-time down the line.
Responsibilities
- Pitching and writing reports on current political developments across the West Bank, including those related to Israel’s occupation, illegal Israeli settlements, the Palestinian Authority, Palestinian society, resistance to the occupation, and internal Palestinian politics;
- Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and sources on the ground;
- Identifying underreported political developments and addressing gaps in international media coverage of the West Bank;
- Writing in-depth stories about communities most affected by Israeli policies;
- Collaborating with the editorial team on a daily basis to develop article ideas and revise drafts, and participating in weekly editorial meetings.
Required skills and qualifications
- A minimum of three years of reporting experience for a local, national, or international news outlet, with a strong preference for experience covering the West Bank;
- Excellent journalistic writing skills, with a portfolio of long-form, magazine style clips;
- In-depth knowledge of the political landscape of Israel-Palestine, and of the history and current political situation in the West Bank, including the legal, political, and economic aspects of Israel’s occupation;
- A close familiarity with social, political, and human rights movements active in the West Bank;
- Proven ability to work under pressure, while managing multiple priorities;
- A commitment to +972 Magazine’s core values of fair journalism, equity, justice, and ending occupation and apartheid;
- Being a team player;
- Residency in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Language requirements
- English – mother-tongue or fluency;
- Arabic – mother tongue or fluency.
