Submissions

Please send pitches for reported pieces to editor@972mag.com.

We are also happy to receive unsolicited oped submissions at oped@972mag.com.

+972 Magazine is an independent, online, non-profit magazine run by a group of Palestinian and Israeli journalists and editors, providing fresh, in-depth reporting and analysis from on the ground in Israel-Palestine.

We welcome pitches in a variety of genres: opinion, analysis, feature and investigative reporting, and creative non-fiction. Although our primary focus is on stories from the Middle East, we also publish work that draws global connections between events, movements, and social or political trends in Palestine-Israel and elsewhere. We consider completed reports as well.

We want a diversity of voices! We strongly encourage people of color, women, LGBTQ and non-binary individuals, and people of various educational backgrounds to reach out.

When sending us a pitch (or submission), please summarize what you have written or plan to write in a couple of paragraphs. Including:

  • Why your story or analysis matters, and why it matters now.
  • How you plan to report the story, who you’ve interviewed so far, and what your access is to additional sources.
  • For analysis pieces, explain why you have a particular insight into or expertise on your topic.

Above all, we seek creative, well-written, cogently-argued and insightful pieces. Articles that simply string together existing arguments, or which fail to offer new perspectives, are almost certain not to be published.

Some basic guidelines for submission:

  • Make sure to thoroughly proofread and copy edit your piece. An article that is rushed or incomplete will not be accepted.
  • While we have a fact-checking process in place, the writer bears the primary responsibility for the accuracy of their work. Reporters should always review their work for factual accuracy. If we find factual errors, we are unlikely to publish the piece, as this indicates that there may be more errors we haven’t found.
  • Please cite sources for all facts and statements. Provide links to primary references, or indicate whether the information was conveyed in an interview.

We pay for analysis and reported articles, but only in exceptional cases for op-eds. The amount depends on the type and length of story.

Finally, we receive a high volume of submissions and pitches, and will usually only respond to those we are interested in running. If you do not hear from us within a week, please assume that we will not be publishing your article on this occasion.
