A bright light against tremendous darkness

Dear friends,

This has been an immensely difficult time here in Israel-Palestine. All of us are exhausted and trying very hard to hold on hope, but there is little respite from the horrors around us: the ongoing Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip; the relentless state-sponsored settler violence in the West Bank; the Israeli hostages still languishing in Hamas captivity; the persecution of Palestinian citizens of Israel; and the abuse of Palestinian prisoners and detainees. Apartheid is deepening and the occupation seems endless. With every round of ceasefire negotiations that collapses, our collective hearts sink even lower.

Our work has been a bright light at a time of tremendous darkness and violence. By supporting us, you will enable us to continue dissenting against the war — by giving a platform to those who are doing so every day.

I have particularly valued our exceptional reporting from Gaza: stories from the ground such as Ruwaida Kamal Amer’s reporting on the collapse of Gaza’s health system, Ibrahim Mohammad’s reporting on life under bombardment in Jabalia refugee camp, and Ibtisam Mahdi’s reporting on cultural genocide have all made me grateful for the work done by +972 and Local Call.

We are also proud to be the platforms for groundbreaking investigations into the Israeli military’s use of AI to generate its bombing targets, which has sparked vigorous debate about the dangerous implications of relying on these technologies in war. And our latest major investigation in partnership with the Guardian, into Israel’s nine-year covert campaign against the International Criminal Court, revealed the extraordinary lengths to which Israel has gone to try to obstruct international justice and shield its leaders from accountability in The Hague.

At the same time, it is significant to us at Local Call and +972 to be the home for voices of conscience in Israel who are resisting the violence, loss of life, and deepening of racism and apartheid — such as Haggai Matar, Samah Salaime, Orly Noy, Baker Zoubi, and Oren Ziv

This is a key time to support independent journalism from Israel-Palestine, as the mainstream media capitulates to militarism. We give a unique platform to conscientious and courageous voices that refuse to be silenced.

As a nonprofit, reader-funded outlet, our work simply wouldn’t be possible without your support. This is an excellent time to join +972 as a member, to help us continue our vital work and enable conscientious and brave independent journalism to flourish.Button-support 972 redMy deepest of thanks goes to our extraordinary staff, and to you, readers, for supporting them and making the +972 community what it is today.

Yours,

Kifah Abdel Halim, member of the +972 board.
