Speaking the word “genocide” in Berlin |
||
|
As an Israeli whose grandparents fled Germany before the Holocaust, standing in Berlin — my grandfather’s city — and speaking about the genocide my country has committed in Gaza was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But I was proud to speak about our work alongside two of my colleagues at +972. We travelled across Germany, at the invitation of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, because the world needs to hear what so many governments are choosing to ignore. We detailed our investigations from Gaza and the West Bank documenting Israel’s accelerating destruction of Palestinian life. And we spoke of our insistence on platforming voices that dissent against Israel’s forever war: from Palestinian families in Jaffa who are mourning their slain relatives in Gaza, to young Israeli conscientious objectors willing to enter military prison for refusing the draft. As international attention shifts elsewhere, independent reporting is more critical and urgent than ever. Our work is made possible only by readers who stand with us. Become a member to support our independent journalism, and your contribution will be multiplied by 12. The audience’s response was extraordinary. It was clear people were hungry to hear more about our work after having read our stories and listened to our podcasts, leading to a multitude of fierce, thought-provoking questions. And after every event, members of the audience approached us to say a personal thank you. Stand with us in our fearless reporting. Join our community of monthly supporters today. At the very moment when our uncompromising reporting is most crucial, our financial situation has become significantly more difficult. This month, we need 200 new monthly members to help secure the future of this reporting. Every new recurring supporter gives our journalists the stability to keep investigating, analyzing, and bearing witness when others look away. When I sat on that stage in Germany, I was speaking for every member of our community who refuses to be silent in the face of genocide and apartheid. Will you join our community today and sustain our reporting? This is the fourth of five fundraising emails we’ll be sending during this campaign. So far, we have welcomed 86 new members, and we’re 42% of the way to our 200 new monthly members goal. If you rely on our work, and have ever considered supporting us, now is the best time to become a member as every contribution during this campaign will be multiplied by 12.
