Exposing Israel’s killing machine in Gaza |

Welcome to +972’s Sunday Recap! On Thursday, the new documentary “NAZA” made its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. As directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor detailed, the film shows how Israel’s slaughter of Palestinian civilians was a calculated and intentional act, through the testimonies of those responsible. After watching the film, Mahmoud Mushtaha wrote that “NAZA” makes visible what he and other Palestinians could never see from inside: that there were people watching, calculating, and deciding how many would die — turning human lives into mere “collateral damage.” Local Call’s Oren Ziv reported from the northern Jordan Valley in the West Bank, where Israel’s new separation wall is closing in on Palestinian communities. While the army damages water pipes and confiscates cars, settlers from nearby outposts terrorize shepherding families — forcing dozens to flee. Ahead of next month’s election, the Israeli right is rekindling a Zionist classic: Judaizing the Galilee. As Local Call’s Baker Zoubi wrote, ministers, NGOs, and news sites are joining forces to portray Palestinian urban growth in northern Israel as an “invasion” and advance Jewish settlement. And on the latest episode of The +972 Podcast, Dikla Taylor-Sheinman spoke with Israeli scholar Neve Gordon about how Israel wields international law as a license to kill, twisting wartime protections for civilians to legitimize genocide — and what that paradox means for Palestinian liberation. *** We are in an extraordinarily dangerous era in Israel-Palestine, one defined by genocide, apartheid, and Jewish supremacy from the river to the sea. It has never been more vital for our journalists, led by Palestinians and Israelis, to report on and analyze what is happening on the ground and beyond, guided by humanism, equality, and justice. +972 Magazine is proof that an alternative is possible — and we need your support to increase our impact.
