Long a symbol of the Palestinian popular struggle, the West Bank village of Bil’in has once again found itself in Israel’s crosshairs. As Local Call’s Oren Ziv reported, the army has issued a seizure order to confiscate village land for a new “security road,” which experts say will help cement a settlement corridor in the heart of the West Bank.

Sami Sawalmeh explained how Israel manufactured the fuel shortage that has gripped the West Bank. Long gas station lines, he argued, are a symptom of deeper structural problems: banking restrictions, total dependence on Israeli supply, and a PA in financial crisis (originally published on Local Call).

The Israeli military recently announced the results of a handful of probes into high-profile massacres in Gaza. Yet Dan Owen argued that they are simply a smokescreen: Israel has convicted only two soldiers for harming Palestinians since Oct. 7, exactly as the military ‘justice’ system is intended to work.

Palestinian doctors in Israel are often celebrated as proof of Israeli liberalism and vilified by the right as “taking over” the healthcare system. But as Local Call’s Baker Zoubi reported, they are in fact being quietly shut out of the profession — despite a shortage of thousands of physicians in Israel.

And Nathalie Rozanes wrote about Israel’s obsession with dead soldiers’ sperm: Postmortem sperm retrieval has become state policy, with a quarter of all male soldiers killed since October 7 undergoing the procedure. But by creating a pressure valve for grieving families, it only perpetuates war.
